February 2019 U.S. Employment Situation

Total nonfarm payroll employment changed little in February (+20,000), and the unemployment rate declined to 3.8 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Employment in professional and business services, health care, and wholesale trade continued to trend up, while construction employment decreased.

January 2019 Ohio and U.S. Employment Situation

Ohio's unemployment rate was 4.7 percent in January 2019, up from a revised 4.6 percent in December. Ohio’s nonagricultural wage and salary employment increased 20,300 over the month, from a revised 5,583,300 in December to 5,603,600 in January 2019.

Job gains occurred in several industries, including leisure and hospitality, construction, health care, and transportation and warehousing.
